FAMILY SERVICES
New Hope for Families
New Hope for families was started in 1986 by a group of concerned citizens in Pawtucket and Central Falls with a safe place to go to rebuild their resources and their lives. As the only emergency family shelter in the cities of Pawtucket and Central Falls, families come to the shelter from a variety of circumstances including overcrowded housing, eviction, living in cars or moving from house to house. Each year new Hope provides shelter to over 25 families.
In response to the homeless prevalence in the area, New hope for Families created a program that supports its mission of providing shelter, structure, support and case management. With the assistance of bilingual staff, the shelter has the capability to receive low-income families from several different cultures and backgrounds, including those who speak English, French and Spanish. The shelter has a capacity of 22 beds in five apartments. Each family may stay for up to 3 months. New Hope also has two transitional apartment units where families may stay for up to one year.
In July, 2005, New Hope for Families affiliated with gateway Healthcare allowing for much needed infrastructure support in the areas of clinical services, human resources and staff training. Thanks to this affiliation, New Hope's families are provided with much needed support in the areas of mental health services, family counseling and crisis intervention during their stay at the shelter and after securing permanent housing.
In February, 2006 New Hope expanded into permanent supportive services through collaboration with area property managers and most recently with Pawtucket Community Development Corporation . Residents in the 3 designated units continue to receive case management services in order to ensure growth, stability and self-sufficiency.
